Prospects for Water Supply Systems in the 21st Century

Since the year 2003 was designated as "International Year of Fresh Water" by the United Nations, the Third Water Forum was held at areas around Lake Biwa and along Yodo River across Kyoto, Shiga and Osaka. The 6th International Symposium on Water Supply Technology was held in Kobe as part of the Third Water Forum under the theme of "Prospects for Water Supply Systems in the 21st Century." Including a special lecture by Pro. Norihito Tanbo, the president of the International Water Association (IWA), and overseas reports by eminent experts who works in waterworks - related organizations in the USA and Western Europe such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany,; domestic and international experts and researchers together held a wide range of discussions on common issues that water utilities are facing: "How to operate water supply services", "Reconstruction of water service systems" and others. The symposium provided opportunities for the participants to gain beneficial insights on solutions for various issues that water utilities have and on the future of water supply services. It also created a great opportunity to present Japan's experience and knowledge to the world.
